Bryan Chang, President of the Board & Head Instructor
In addition to serving on the board, Bryan Chang is also the founder and Executive Director of Dance Music Initiative. He volunteers his time by teaching DJing fundamentals and dance music culture to the local community. This includes a free, weekly class open to the public, as well as an after-school program for children. Before changing careers from tech to music, he worked in the video game industry for 15 years, with almost a decade as a producer at Blizzard Entertainment. There he managed teams, schedules, and budgets for billion dollar franchises. Chang has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of California, Irvine.
Bryan Chang has always been drawn to music. At age 16, he taught himself to play the drums and was first exposed to dance music culture in college. Despite attending and loving his first rave in 2005 and learning how to DJ in 2010, the inflection point for Chang was after attending a regional Burning Man event in 2016. Rave culture really clicked for him after he witnessed the impact of communities that self organize to share and celebrate art. That became the catalyst for leaving the rat race and dedicating his life to making a direct impact on his local arts community. In his spare time, Chang enjoys DJing, eating exotic food, and playing board games with friends.

Tyler Greene, Board Member
Tyler Greene is a lighting designer and stage production guru by trade. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, he began his career as an apprentice in the art of theater lighting. From those humble beginnings, he quickly found himself lighting and designing stages for rock concerts, festivals, and promotional events for big names like Electric Daisy Carnival, HARDfest, MTV Video Music Awards, World Wrestling Federation, Call of Duty, League of Legends, Deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Skrillex, The Chemical Brothers, Hall and Oats, The Deftones, Tom Petty, and the Wu Tang Clan. Greene has since retired from touring to pursue a more underground, creative path. His latest project “Sci-Fighter” is a home grown festival series that supports emerging underground artists in their fight for imagination and creativity.
Greene is a true artist and is driven to create experiences that push beyond the bounds entertainment technology. His passion for enhancing live musical performances and supporting other creatives is apparent in everything he touches, and that includes serving on the board of directors for Dance Music Initiative. Apart from the pursuits of his career, Greene plays the drums, surfs, and is a dedicated single father.

He is also a founder of MAY Day Events, an organization that promotes DJs by providing live performance opportunities, photography, and graphic design services. Outside of the rave scene, Gamboa enjoys drifting cars, bicycling, and sketching.

Miko Aguilar, Creative Director
Miko Aguilar is a Filipino electronic music producer and DJ that performs under the moniker Qolaj. He developed his craft and stacked his resume with collaborations, pushing his edges with experimental pieces combining spoken word with photography, video production, improv, and running a non-profit artist-activist collective.
In 2015 Miko Aguilar relocated to the United States from The Philippines and uncovered a whole new relationship with sound through the discovery of electronic music. He spent the next few years reviving his passion for music and began taking music production and DJing more seriously, including earning the honor of becoming a DMI graduate. Aguilar prides himself on being an active member of music communities including Dance Music Initiative, CUE, and Defyre Society. These associations helped refine his style and developed a sound that prances around the boundaries of modern house music.

Nicholas Cobb, Instructor
Nicholas Cobb is a graduate of the DMI DJ curriculum and music producer raised in Texas and currently based in Orange County, California. As a programmer by profession, he approaches DJing with an eye for the technical. He believes that the collaborative effort of a broad community is better than the sum of that community’s atomized parts. For that reason he gives back to the community by sharing the knowledge with others who are eager to learn. Additionally, Cobb is an organizer for the Electronic Music Producers Association, another nonprofit that provides lectures and information about electronic music production.

Anthony Perez, Instructor
Anthony Perez is a prime example of Dance Music Initiative graduate who became a DJ instructor. He began his educational journey in 2019 and has dedicated himself to honing his skills as a DJ and electronic music producer. Ever since falling in love with dance music from a young age, he has transferred his passion for house and techno into DJing and is now helping DMI spread the knowledge to all of those who are interested in learning. In addition to teaching, he’s had the opportunity to showcase his skills in various clubs, raves, and even a convention in England. He gets fulfillment from helping others achieve their DJing goals. On his time off he can be found at home producing music and playing video games.

John Cano, Instructor
For over a decade, John Cano has worked as a Producer and Art Director for an outdoor remodeling company. His keen eye adds value to both business and clientele. He leverages those skills to be an effective member of DMI’s media team. John is a 2022 DMI graduate.

Dean Lalap, Instructor
Dean Lalap joined Dance Music Initiative as a student in May 2023, attending as many Monday evening classes as he could. After a few months and lots of at-home practice, Lalap took the graduation test and passed with flying colors. Immediately after graduating, he volunteered as an instructor at the weekly classes to pay the knowledge forward. Lalap also helps run video and live streaming at DMI events.

Holliday Panasith, Instructor
Veteran DJ Holliday Panasith, with over 20 years of DJing experience, has been a long time supporter of DMI and is now part of our dedicated team of instructors. Panasith is also the founder of the Ayamterrain tribe and music label. The collective’s artistry spans a breadth of progressive soundscapes, drawing inspiration from nature and connectivity. Our students are very fortunate to have an instructor as knowledgeable, energetic, and generous as Panasith.

Annie Chang, Journalist
Annie Chang was invited to attend our summer beach series by another student in 2023. She took a chance and connected with members of the DMI community. She was enamored by a nonprofit organization of like-minded music lovers that taught people how to pursue what they love. Since then she has been attending DMI’s weekly lessons and is honing her skills so she can pass the vinyl DJing test. Looking for ways to give back to the community, she has volunteered to author the DMI newsletter.
